Aero- and thermodynamics of tunnel systems

Major parts of modern, high-speed rail links are often built as tunnels. Because of the elevated train velocities, various aerodynamic phenomena occurring during train passage need to be considered for tunnel design. Additionally in long tunnels and in metro systems the tunnel climate might be an important issue for the tunnel design.

Environmental physics

Interactions with the environment are to be taken into account when designing and constructing underground infrastructure buildings. HBI Haerter realizes the relevant parameters and analyses the environmental effects on underground plants with regard to the construction and operation phase. Conversely, HBI analyses the effects of infrastructure buildings on the environment and plans appropriate measures. Relevant environmental-physical services by HBI concern analyses, planning of measures, measurements and simulations.

Immissions

When changing traffic routes, a focus lies on complying with current air pollutant limits; especially in connection with tunnels. While immission pollution through air pollutants is reduced at the surface along a tunnel, increased concentrations occur in the area of the tunnel portals. If there is housing construction within this area of impact, the statutory air pollutant limits can be exceeded. This is why immission prognoses are created already during the planning phase in order to discover critical points and integrate possible counter measures in the planning early on.
